Building a new house? Then you should consider installing Hudevad trench heaters

06/12-2022

Trench heaters. Perhaps not the most popular or common word - on the other hand, it is one of the most widespread solutions within home heating right now - and with good reason. So, if you are in the process of building a new house, you should read along.

What is a trench heater?

A trench heater is basically a radiator that is placed in the floor under a grate. It releases heat like a regular radiator but doesn't take up space in the room like a radiator does.  Trench heater are preferably placed in front of large window sections and glass doors to compensate for the cold that inevitably enters the home from here.

New construction and trench heaters

The reason why trench heaters have gained traction with many new builders is the desire to offer light and a view inside. The large open spaces - kitchen-dining room, conservatories, and orangeries - with large glass facades can therefore be found in many new homes. But when you invite nature and light in, cold drafts are a natural companion. Trench heaters can thus be advantageously placed along the glass facade and act as a kind of air curtain, so that the cold air is balanced with the heat from the trench heaters. In this way, cold drafts from the windows are eliminated, which prevents condensation, and the temperature is felt constant throughout the room. You can then ask whether ordinary underfloor heating can't do the trick, but with the large glass facades, extra heat is required to compensate for the cold - even if the house is well insulated. Classic radiators, on the other hand, can relieve the cold, but there are advantages to choosing floor convectors in that case.

The advantages of trench heaters

There are several advantages of trench heaters in addition to their good heating properties:

  • They do not take up space in the room, as they are located below floor level.
  • The floor grilles are available in several materials, and they can thus be included as part of the interior design.
  • They prevent the formation of condensation on the windowpane.
  • Trench heaters are an energy-efficient solution, so you save on the heating bill.
  • Trench heaters can be used together with other heat sources, e.g., radiators and underfloor heating.
  • Possibility of special sizes both in length and width as well as adapted to round curves.
